Right now, you can't. But, you can use a fine photo site like http://www.flickr.com to host your photos. Just paste the URL to the photo within a page, and the photo will show up.

Eg:

http://static.flickr.com/5/buddyicons/79999387@N00.jpg

shows up like this:
79999387@N00

editWhy do I see "edit" links next to headings sometimes, but sometimes not?

The creator of a page may allow anyone to edit the page or not. You'll see the edit link If you created th page or if anyone may edit it.
