About localdb
editWhat is localdb?
Localdb is the easiest way to build a local database about your interest, and see it mapped at yourinterest.localdb.com.
editHow does it work?
editIn tech-speak
Localdb is a wiki in which pages are given geo coordinates and keyword tags for searching, mapping, and aggregating similar pages.
editIn other words
Localdb is an open, collaborative local guide. Anyone can sign up and contribute any kind of local information.
The information is stored in pages, which are flexible and easy to update. You can assign keywords and a city/zip-code to each page, which will help other people find it.
A page can be protected so that only the creator can update it, or can be left so that anyone can contribute information to it.
editWhat should I use localdb for?
- A multi-page guide for visitors to your town
- A list of happy hours, good vegetarian restaurants, etc.
- Pages about buildings by a fine architect like Mies Van Der Rohe
- Build a national guide for your real-world interest, and see entries on the map at yourinterest.localdb.com
- Contribute information you know/see to pages you come across.
- Put your local blog on the map (rss features coming soon, we hope)
- Other things we couldn't anticipate
